In our effort to rebuild the largest and strongest turtle hatchery—after the 2018 hurricane split our island in two and destroyed the previous one—we’ve been looking for ways to make it stronger, more sustainable, and more affordable.
After much thought, we decided to use bamboo. Thanks to generous donations that allowed us to harvest bamboo from private land, we’re ready to begin!
We are thrilled to announce a landmark achievement for our sea turtle conservation efforts in Costa Rica: our official research and conservation permits have been approved! This exciting development marks a major step forward in our mission to protect sea turtles along the Costa Rican coastline and allows us to expand our scientific work with full government support. With this approval, we can now officially lead research, education, and habitat protection programs that benefit endangered sea turtle populations in one of the world’s most vital nesting areas.
We are proud to announce the reestablishment of our sea turtle conservation project near Quepos, Costa Rica, on the pristine shores of Isla Palo Seco. This marks an exciting new chapter in our mission to protect sea turtles in Costa Rica and preserve the biodiversity of the Pacific coast.
After two years of preparation, we have officially received our government permits to begin operations again. Our new conservation efforts are now supported by a dedicated non-profit organization called Conserve Aquatica, founded to advance research and protection of aquatic species in Costa Rica.
